I'm replacing a Honda Jazz - how about a Skoda. VRS?

Replacement car for my Jazz. £5k ideal spend. Would go to £7k. Jazz has parking sensors and arm rest. Ideally want fitted to next car but DIY is acceptable if car is right. Looking at Skoda Fabia VRS diesel, Civic 2006 on petrol or diesel ideally ES or EX. Even would look at the usual Golf, Octavia etc.

I am 25 and do 14k a year. I really like my jazz due to handling, space, reliability and reasonable economy. Commute is lanes, motorway. Happy for next vehicle to lose handling and gain comfort. 46-55mpg Is very useful on cost.

I look for reliable cars with reasonable boot space. Looking for economical. Willing to go reliable petrol due to cost saving over expensive diesel repairs. Happy if I can get away with no problems.

Have no badge snobbery. Even looked at the small Colt CZ2 cleartec due to economy. Boot space is issue here.

I have scoured the internet and would be happy in the Skoda or even the Honda. Like the idea or a little more power but really don't know if I'd make much use of it but would probably help with my mild hypermiling techniques.

Ideally want lower mileage car and newer but happy to go as old as 2004 and upto 100k if this doesn't cause reliability or rust.

Recommended choice? Or alternatives? I'm happy if your response is a list of cars to look into.

In November, Civic 1.8iSEs were looking good value at around £5,500 for a 25k 2008. I rated these cars as sleepers. Incredibly versatile. Handle well. And will do 45mpg on a run.
