Winter Tyres on an Audi A4 - what's your advice?

I have an Audi A4 2.0 TDI 170 running on 245/40R/18/93Y tyres. I have been told that I can have fitted 225/40R/18/93V winter tyres on my existing alloy rims?

This is obviously a thinner tyre and at a lower rated speed.

My concerns are: Is this true, or is it a sales pitch? If it is true will there be any insurance issues and will the thinner tyres cause any issues with the cars sensors/set up?

The narrower width will make them deeper profile. Probably better to go to 16" wheels with 205/55 R16 winter tyres. News item about winter tyre options from Audi here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/parts-and-accessories/20.../
