Will a new 3 Series have noisy tyres?

I have just test driven the new BMW 3 series 328i and thought it was a superb car except for intrusive road noise. It was on non standard 18" wheels.

Do you think the road roar would be less on the standard 17" wheels.

I didn't have a problem on 18" on my road test because BMW has reduced the width and increased the profile.
