Parking fine at motorway services

I have received an over stay parking fine from the services at South Mimms of £90, reduced to £60 if paid early.

I find these charges to be extortionate and would pay a more realistic sum £10 as I was over my 2hour limit by 1hour 44 minutes, as a friend and I were having a meal etc at the services. Am I legally bound to pay the amount or just a token amount? I also was not aware of any notices informing me that they had changed the parking procedures.

Utterly outrageous. The government urges, "Tiredness can kill. Take a break". The allows its contractors to penalise motorists that do. I would demand that the parking enforcer takes you to court, then argue your case there. Make sure you have receipts for your meal, or at least proof of a credit or charge card payment for the meal.
