Why might my insurance company be offering their best premiums to me without haggling?

I was reading your column and noted your comments about insurance companies asking silly renewal quotes which then come down if you can be bothered to ring them. I have been with Direct Line for a while and the past few years they have done the same to me. I have done one quick search on Go Compare or similar, told them what other quote I have been offered and they have offered me something almost the same (and close enough for me to be prepared to accept a small hit for the convenience of not having to change).

This year however they have offered a competitive quote straight away. This could be a new policy of looking after existing customers, or they have realised that I will not play ball and they can save themselves some time and effort by not trying to take the mick.

Interesting. They probably have a marker on your policy warning not to waste their time mucking you about.
