Will Mercedes-Benz fix this under warranty?

My independent Mercedes-Benz servicing garage tells me that the Sensotronic Brake Control unit on my 2004 E320 cdi (90,000 mileage) needs replacement at a cost of £900+.

I've read on various MB Forums on the internet that Mercedes-Benz may replace this unit under an extended warranty as it is both a known problem and a safety issue.

My independent garage on my behalf kindly approached the main dealer, who at first indicated that Mercedes might make a goodwill payment towards the cost but then appeared to backtrack when pressed.

Can you advise me how I might best approach Mercedes regarding this (I have already emailed Mercedes Customer Service at Milton Keynes and await their response) or should i just bite the bullet and pay the independent to do the job?

MB will definitely not pay an independent. Had you been having the car serviced at an MB dealer you might have got somewhere. Because you have not been doing this I doubt you will get any help and I think your only small chance is to see what happens if the work is done by the MB dealer.
