Valuation - Good or Bad?

A salesman at a BMW dealership quoted me over the phone a trade-in price for my 2008 year 325d SE coupe after taking the registration number and details of the car. When I got to the dealership to do the deal however he said that a mistake had been made and the price quoted was for an M Sport model.
The salesman said he would honour the price, although his manager was not keen to do the deal because of the mistake. I went ahead but on reflection I do wonder if a BMW dealership could make such a mistake and if I really got a fair price for my car?

This comes from using automated computer systems to price cars. One miss-key and it's wrong.
