Buying a replacement car

My old boss (73), has retired to a French village. He wants to change his dying 11yr old Renault Megane Scenic RTE 1.9 DCi.

Replacement must be big (he is 6ft 3ins 17 stone!) and reliable (no public transport). He is steady driver at 2000 rpm. Most trips between 5 and 75 kms plus trip to UK or Spain (10,000kms) every 3 yrs. There is a local village mechanic, Citreon trained but will fix anything. He can spend up to £7,000. What would you recommend?

Lots of room in the front seats of the old shape Ford C-Max.
