Car written off - can I keep my number plate?

My wife was recently hit from behind and her 1999 Micra 1.3 Inspiration has damage to the rear bumper and tailgate.

Bearing in mind the age of the car, what would be the current market value? It has done 125k miles and we have owned the car since 6 months old.

If it is a write off can we charge the negilgent drivers insurance for transfer of a private plate off the write off to another car?

What happens if we cannot find a similar car for the price - can we charge the same insurance company for the difference?

Value, almost nothing. £350 tops. So it will be written off and you need to transfer the reg to a retention certificate before it it written off or you will lose your rights to the plate. Start here: dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/help/
