Crankshaft bolt dropped out 5 months after buying used VW

I bought a 2007 VW Golf GT TSI in March11 (48k miles) from an independent dealership. I am now faced with a large repair bill (new cylinder head) after a bolt dropped out of the crankshaft in Sept 11 (52k miles). Do I have any recourse to the independent dealership?

On investigation the bolt should have been replaced (stretch bolt) as part of warranty work which was carried out by VW in May 10 (42k miles). This may not have been the case as the bolt has markings indicating that it was turned both ways and hence re-used. Do I have any recourse to VW for the preceived lack of care in carrying out the warranty work.

Not against the dealer who sold you the car. But you may have a case against the dealer that put the stress into the bolt during the course of the warranty work.
