There are plenty of options to choose from that would meet your needs. If you are looking for a hatchback, we would suggest looking at the Honda Civic or Toyota Auris, both of which have a good reliability record. The Auris comes with an automatic gearbox on hybird models which would give you better fuel consumption than the Civic.
If you need something larger you could consider the Toyota RAV4 or Mazda CX-5, both of which are available with automatics and have good reliability records.
