Should I get the brakes replaced on a car before selling?
I’m about to advertise my 2016 Discovery Sport for sale. I had 2 new tyres put on it the other day and was advised by KwikFit that I will need new brake pads and possibly discs very soon. They quoted me £370 for the pads alone. Should I get this done and hope to get top money for the car, or should I advertise it for less stating that they will need to be done soon? I’m only likely to get around £6k for the car anyway.

When selling a car it is common to find yourself in this dilemma, as it can seem pointless to spend money on a car you are about to sell. However, even if you don't recoup all the money you spend on the brakes, being able to add 'new discs and pads' to your advert will make it a more appealing option to potential buyers which could help it sell more quickly and for more money. We would also advise checking the condition of the discs and pads yourself or have them inspected by a reputable independent Land Rover specialist - it may be that there is plenty of life in the discs and pads so they do not require changing for some time.
