Do noise cancelling tyres work in real-life driving?

Do noise cancelling tyres work in real-life driving? I have 20-inch rims with 255 45 tyres which, unsurprisingly, create quite a lot of road noise on my Audi Q5. I will be needing new tyres for the winter and really don't want to buy smaller wheels, so would the investment in noise cancelling tyres make a noticeable difference, especially at motorway speeds? If so, any specific brand recommendations from experience?

Thanks,

Stuart.

We've yet to test noise cancelling tyres in depth ourselves but from our brief experience of driving a car with them fitted, they are certainly a little quieter, if not exactly 'noise cancelling'. Essentially they typically have a layer of foam that fits inside the tyre against the liner. We'd suggest looking at Pirelli P Zero (PZ4) NCS.
