Is negotiating on new car prices a thing of the past?

I am looking to buy a new VW T-Roc. Dealers are not willing to shift on price even though I have no part ex. Is negotiating a thing of the past?

At the moment, there’s a lot of demand for new petrol cars, so discounting is minimal. Furthermore, many car manufacturers have changed their business model to reduce the incentives for dealers. So it’s fair to say that while discounts still exist, they’re not as generous as they used to be and are very rare on popular models.
