Brand new Toyota Aygo - water leaks

I have just purchased a brand new Toyota Aygo Go MMT which I collected on 7 July 2011. On Friday I took it for its first real run - West Wales - West Sussex.

Upon unloading the boot I noticed dampness and the boot liner was absolutely soaked in places. We took this out to dry and then removed the panel which sits over the spare tyre and found around 1.5" to 2" water. We removed the spare wheel and jack, drained the water and then dried everything off before replacing.

We then checked the car further and found dampness along the sides of the rear seat footwells and when I pushed my hand under the rear seat I can feel dampness there too.

I emailed the salesman from whom I bought the car Saturday morning but so far have not had a reply but wondered in the meantime what your take on this would be?

I really like the car but have lost confidence having discovered this problem. I have looked at blog sites and it seems a common problem with the Aygo but then it goes onto say that these problems are sorted on new models. However, this certainly is not the case on my vehicle.

I am concerned now that even when the car is dry it will retain the "damp" smell and having paid over 10k for something which I intended to keep for around ten years this is of concern.

Common problem. But unless they fix it you have every right to reject the car as having been delivered fundamentally faulty. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
