Tyre speed ratings

My daughter needed a new tyre on her Hyundai i30 because of a puncture. All the tyres are speed rated as H (upto 130 mph). The tyre fitter at Costco when checking on his computer said that it told him it required V rated (149 mph) tyres and refused to fit a H rated one .
Surely H is sufficient for this car? I notice on my Santa Fe (2010) which according to the spec has a top speed of 118 mph it is fitted with T rated tyres (118 mph)
Was he correct ?

The car must be fitted with the specification of tyre originally specified for it otherwise the insurance is void. The fitter did the right thing. Nothing to do with the maximum speed rating of the tyre. Everything to do with the spec of the tyre.
