Tyre pressure sensor valve failure

I have had two tyre pressure sensor valves fail in the last year (cause seems to be corrosion)- great inconvenience but no blow-outs so far.

I am concerned about long term safety of these devices - should I have them replaced with standard valves? A tyre fitter at a leading tyre supplier has told me that these failures are quite common across all makes.

I am worried that the next failure will be a blow-out at motorway speed!
