Replacing two cars with one

We have an 11yr old BMW 528i saloon and 5yr old Golf 1.6 FSI both automatic.

We want to replace the two cars with one that can cope with central London driving (has to be auto) incl. dealing with lots of speed bumps, and will provide a comfortable ride plus overtaking power to match that of the BMW on long trips.

Total annual mileage 5,000 (half out of town). Car needs to cope with icy/snow conditions as BMW struggles where we live. Winter tyres not an option as nowhere to store them. Also need additional boot space to current BMW. Budget up to £35 to £40k assuming £5k to £7k possible on exchange for our two cars. Can be new or approved used car up to 2yrs old.

BMW F25 X3 2.0d 8-speed auto. 147g/km CO2. Order on 'all weather' tyres to cover you for winter better than normal summer tyres would, but not as well as full winters.
