Which Audi A3 engine and transmission?

My partner has narrowed down her choice of car to the new Audi A3 3 door or sportback model (she has yet to decide).

She would like the 1.6tdi but is it worth paying extra for the S Tronic gearbox or just sticking with the manual gearbox?

Problems with the s-tronic (DSG7) transmission have led to a worldwide recall, so stick with manual. Plenty of problems with the 1.6TDI too, so probably better the new 1.4TSI 140 ACT engine.
