Buying a luxury hybrid

A friend spends a lot of time sitting in rush hour traffic and is thinking of buying a hybrid car in order to cut down on fuel consumption and emissions.

He is impressed with the luxury and claimed fuel efficiency of the Lexus CT 200h. Would you suggest he considers other makes or is the Lexus a clear leader in this field?
