What happens if my car fails an MoT before the date of expiry?

If my car fails the MoT prior to the expiry date of the current MoT certificate what is the status?

When looking on the government check and MoT status it shows fail but also says the current MoT is coming to its expiry date as if it is still valid.

If a vehicle fails an MoT then it does not have a valid MoT certificate, regardless of the expiry date of the previous MoT.
