Nissan X-trail-2.0 petrol TREK

I should very much like a used Nissan X-trail 173 diesel, but I only cover a few thousand miles a year, so the DPF problems mean I should have to go for the 2 litre petrol Trek; sadly, the Trek is very basic and lacks ESP. Would this make the car unpleasant to drive (ie unstable) on motorways or is the ESP mainly of use off-road?

ESP can be programmed to work in many ways but to my mind it's often just another component legislated into cars after intensive lobbying by the component manufacturers.
