I ordered a new car in October 2022 but it won't be delivered until 2024 - is this normal?

I ordered a new Toyota Yaris Cross in Oct 2022 and was told delivery would be second quarter of 2023. This was then amended to November, then October and now it’s January 2024 with a possibility it could be even later. Should I cut my losses and cancel the order and is there anything similar to look at?

There have been widespread problems in the motor industry with the supply of new parts, which has affected delivery times for almost all manufacturers. Delays have been significant, although your situation seems like a particularly bad example.

Assuming you have put down a deposit, it would be worth contacting the dealer to see if they would be willing to refund or switch to a different vehicle that they have in stock. This may not be the Yaris Cross you ordered, but unless you are prepared to wait this may be the quickest way of getting a new car.

If you're looking for an alternative, we would suggest the Ford Puma, Citroen C3 Aircross or the Suzuki Ignis. You may find that the lead times on these cars are less than for the Yaris Cross.
