Are there really delays on new cars or is this just an excuse to hike prices?

Are car manufacturers being honest about the continuing delays on new cars due to computer chip shortages? Or is this just an excuse to hike prices?

I have just returned from a holiday in Canada and the USA and I have seen plenty of adverts for new cars (including imports from Far East manufacturers) with discounts up to $10,000 and in stock for immediate delivery? If availability is good into these markets surely there is no longer a shortage of chips?

Manufacturers always want to sell as many cars as they possibly can and as much as shortage of supply may lead to increased prices, it is highly unlikely they are artificially doing so in order to raise prices.

It is also worth remembering that the global right-hand-drive market is significantly smaller than the left-hand-drive market, so manufacturers will always focus their attention on the bigger markets first.
