Obtaining a V5 for a car owned by someone deceased

My partner and I are moving in together, she's selling her house. However in her garage is a car owned by her late partner who died four years ago. Frustratingly, he left no will or instructions and after extensive searching we can not find the V5 logbook for this car. When my partner finally moves we would like to move/dispose of the car, not to our new address, but after speaking to DVLA we are not sure how to get a V5 replacement for the car as it is in her late partner's name, and obviously he can not request a replacement. This car has been SORN for over three years now, to which the DVLA are aware. Do you have any suggestions how we can obtain a V5 in this circumstance, or a way of disposing of the car without a V5?

You will need to write to the DVLA to explain what the relationship with the deceased was and fill out a few forms. Details of how to go about doing it are here: www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/DG_4...3
