Should I buy an ex-police car?

Are young but high mileage high performance undercover police cars (Volvo/BMW) with a lot of cosmetic wear a bargain buy?

No. They lead a very hard life (spending a lot of time idling before having to accelerate hard from a standstill – not to mention regular contact with other vehicles). Many police fleets are currently having issues with BMW engines that are proving unreliable (and, in extreme cases, are setting on fire). They're cheap for a reason – avoid!

I bought an ex-police riot van last year which had an MoT at the time of purchase. Now I find I cannot MoT it as it is not registered. The dealership taxed it for me the day I picked it up. What do I do?
