Can my car insurance company make me use one of their approved repairers?

My insurer is pushing me to use one of their approved repairers. I would rather have the work done by a BMW approved repairer, can I insist on using the BMW repairer? If so, how would I go about it?

Yes, you can insist on using a repairer of your choice. There are some drawbacks with this: you probably won't get a courtesy car from your insurance provider, they might not guarantee repairs and they could sting you with an additional charge on top of your excess or not agree to pay the full cost of the repairs if they think their approved repairer would have been cheaper. It is worth checking your insurance policy documents on all of this.

You would need to get a quote from the BMW approved repairer and send it to your insurance provider to be approved before any repairs could be done.
