Polos wear memorial

I am writing to ask for some advice regarding our brand new VW Polo that we bought 2 months ago as part of the scrappage scheme. I also
have an 05 plate Golf TDI with 100k miles and never any problems.
With this in mind my wife wanted a new car, and seeing as her old car was now worth £2k against a brand new one, we then bought a VW Polo Match 1.4 from our local main dealer. Over the last week it developed a noise under the bonnet that sounded like a loose plate.
It was taken into the dealer where they changed the thrust bearing and it has made no difference, so the fault is in the gearbox. It’s now
booked in for next week for 4 days to have the gearbox dismantled by a master technician and the offending component changed. I believe that a brand new car and all its components should be fit for purpose, as the car is only 2 months old and only 1,000miles. I have since spoken to the VW dealer and VW Customer Service, but it seems that the car has to go in to the garage for a "diagnosis" and only then can the Warranty dept make a call as to repair or replace. I don't want a reconditioned gearbox on a brand new car. I am infuriated by the situation. Please can you provide me with a way forward with this as we feel we are being short-changed.

Polos have always had variable transmission quality. But if the dealer replaces the transmission, while keeping you mobile in an equivalent car, that is all he has to do. If he doesn't, then get a specialist solicitor onto the matter. See Consumer Rights FAQ at www.honestjohn.co.uk
