IAM what I am
I have successfully completed the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) driving course, which, considering that it is almost 40 yrs since I passed my driving test, was a great opportunity to refresh my driving skills. Some of the lesser-known benefits are as follows. a) By taking advantage of the IAM Surety motor insurance scheme, I have saved more than £100 on the premium quoted by my previous insurers even though I qualify for the maximum no claims bonus. b) By taking out an optional car breakdown service this has only cost an additional £24.50. The savings I have made far outweigh the cost of the driving course fee and are a further incentive for all drivers to consider taking an advanced driving course.

A very sensible e-mail. Just ignore the very dangerous advice that seems to have crept back into the IAM manual telling you not to left foot brake while manoeuvring an automatic. If you don’t like left foot braking driving on the road, that’s another matter. But the only failsafe way to manoeuvre an automatic in a confined space is two footed, left foot operating the brake.
