Alarmed and dangerous

I have bought a 207 SW Sport which has an immobiliser but no alarm. All my cars over the last few years have had both but do you recommend having an alarm fitted or does security on cars these days make them redundant? (I don't have children or dogs to set an alarm off by accident).

Alarms don't seem to do very much apart from annoy people.
