Mac, the strife

I've read stories before about McDonald's fining people for taking too long over their meal, but I've just found a new variation. I went to a McDonald's on February 4th; two days ago they sent me a £50 (rising to £100) fine. I went to the restaurant at Great Cambridge Road, Enfield EN1 1EL, where the car park is shared with the Krispy Kreme store. I had given a friend a lift to an appointment at 10.00am in Enfield. While I was waiting for her to finish the appointment (it was only going to take an hour), I went for breakfast at McDonalds. After I had collected my friend at 11.00am she asked to go to Krispy Kreme for coffee and doughnuts, which we did. Having spent money in both stores, I was astonished to receive a Parking Charge Notice from a company called MET Parking Services Ltd, demanding £100 ("generously" discounted to £50) for "returning during the 'no return' period." I had never heard of MET Parking Services Ltd and had no idea if this was bona fide or not. I emailed both McDonald's and Krispy Kreme yesterday, asking them to cancel this notice as all I did was to spend money at their stores. Today I received this reply from McDonald's: Ref 999969: “I am writing further to your e-mail regarding your visit to our Enfield 2 restaurant. I was most concerned to learn of the inconvenience you have experienced. As a company, the use of enforcement methods in our car parks is only necessary in extreme cases to ensure there are always spaces for our customers for the duration of their visit to the restaurant. The parking area is managed by an independent company who monitor the car park and take details of registration numbers. The regulations and signs at the restaurant clearly state our policy and the relevant charges. Regrettably, although we do sympathise with your situation, in light of the above we are not in a position to assist you with revoking the ticket you received in this instance. I am sorry for any disappointment that this may cause. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to comment. Regards Senior Manager, Internet Response Team, McDonald's Customer Services Department. London N2 8AW. I haven't heard anything from Krispy Kreme. I can't believe that McDonald's are standing by this fine. I want to warn everybody about this scam. I only spent about 1/2 an hour each time in the car park, which I think is fair enough, and it was nearly empty anyway because of the snow that day.

It isn't a scam. But if both MacDonalds and Krispy Kreme employ this outfit, that prevents customers from returning to their eateries (I won't dignify them with the term 'restaurant'), then their customers know where to go, don't they?
