Fear to tread

A nearby town has a bus lane that operates on weekdays between the hours of 7am and 7pm. I often drive through after 7pm and on Sundays. During these off-peak times I cannot understand why motorists insist on staying out of the bus lane. Last Sunday I overtook (or should that be undertook?) a large number of cars by cruising down the empty bus lane. I don't think I was very popular judging by the frosty looks that I received but comforted myself that I was doing nothing illegal. How do you stand on this matter?

I noticed the same thing driving through London tonight. One of us thought it's because drivers can’t read or don't read the time limits on the blue signs. The other thought it's because they are simply scared of getting done by Big Bruv, so stay out all the time.
