Without due course

I live in Northamptonshire and was recently caught speeding in Cheshire. I was grateful that I was offered the opportunity to attend a speed awareness course as an alternative to a fine and points on my license. I considered that this was a very reasonable attitude to take. Although I have been driving for over 60 years without being involved in an accident, I felt that the course would help me to be a better driver. I accepted the offer and was invited to attend a course in Cheshire. It seemed to me that a speed awareness course would be fairly standard, so I wrote to the Cheshire Police pointing out that attending the course in Cheshire would involve me in a 250 mile round trip, half of which would be in the dark and this, at my advanced age would do nothing to aid road safety or global warming. I asked if I could attend a course in Northampton. I received a very polite letter in return saying that it was not possible to arrange for me to attend a course elsewhere. This seemed to be a little unhelpful, so I phoned the Northamptonshire Police and asked if I could pay the £60,00 fee and attend one of their courses as a volunteer. Their first reaction was yes, but they would need to check. They then rang back and said no. I attended the course in Cheshire, starting at 7.45am and lasting until 12.30 pm. I must say that I found it very helpful. What a pity that they should have wasted all that goodwill by making unreasonable demands with regard to the venue. It is unlikely that I am the only driver to find myself in this situation. Whom do you suggest that I contact to sort out the problem?

You were done by the Cheshire police, not the Northants police, and the offer of a course instead of points was by the Cheshire police. Each police force has its own individual scheme. These are not transferable area to area.
