Stirling disservice

My husband has received a renewal notice from the AA for his car insurance. Unfortunately he has been made redundant recently (he is a civil engineer) and after notifying the AA of this, his premium has gone up by approx £100 a year due to the fact that he is expected to use his car more but in fact he is using it a lot less, and it seems very unfair. By using a price comparison website, I have been able to find a quote quite a bit cheaper, although it is difficult to compare like for like as they seem to take different things into account, but we are reluctant to leave the AA as we have a second car already insured with them and AA cover and would prefer to be loyal to a company who has previously given us good service. I wondered if you have any suggestions or comments to make?

After the AA has dumped on your husband while he is down, why should you show them any loyalty at all? But what you could do is get in touch and tell them that if they don't relent you will take your business elsewhere. They might then back down. (CR later informed me that the AA had backed down.)
