Regarding your article on unintentional acceleration of automatics, the early Lexus LS400 was very prone to this problem where the accelerator pedal would suddenly floor itself and the car would be unstoppable unless you could reach for the ignition key in time. To my direct knowledge this caused 3 nasty crashes. The fault was found to be the speed control computer.

Audi has this problem in the USA as well, a long time ago. And, in fact, any automatic car could suddenly accelerate uncontrollably,
which is why I recommend left foot braking, especially while manoeuvring when this is most likely to happen (even more likely with a cold engine). There is, of course, now a major worldwide recall of Toyota vehicles because of sticking accelerator pedals.
