Finel count down

I know of a (rural) location where the jumping of a red traffic light is an issue because of the length of time waiting for it to change. Either on the Continent or in the US I have seen 'countdown clocks' counting down the number of seconds to the next change. It seems a simple and effective solution. Are there any examples in the UK?

After seeing these in Bangkok in 2003 I have been advocating the adoption ever since. (Video f them in operation in the Chevrolet Colorado video test at hjuk.) But the UK traffic light lobby tells me it uses flow sensors buried in the road to control lights and adding countdowns to this system would be impossible due to the variable lengths of time the lights stay on red and on green. Thailand also now have traffic light cameras and anyone whose car is snapped jumping lights gets a £10 fine through the post.
