The turbo on BMW 320d failed after 7 years and 53,000 miles. A new unit was fitted but the engine ran roughly and misfired. A scope fed into the inlet manifold revealed that a flap valve was missing and the mechanic's diagnosis was that this was responsible and the damage was irreparable. BMW is not prepared to offer a goodwill financial contribution and without a running engine the car is now only worth scrap value. Is this refusal to help reasonable given the rarity of such an occurrence?

This catastrophe is becoming quite common. The inlet manifold swirl flaps break off and get ingested by the engines.
