Frequently Asked Questions
Q

FUEL DUTY. What are the rates for 2008/2009/2010?

A

Fuel duty rates were scheduled to go up by 2p a litre on 1-10-2008, but this was postponed until 1-12-2008. VAT is levied on the taxed cost of the fuel, ie cost of fuel + fuel tax x 17.5% VAT.

Fuel Duty on Petrol and Diesel = 50.35p/litre to 30-11-08, then 52.35p from 1-12-08 (though from 1-12-2008 VAT went down from 17.5% to 15%)

Fuel Duty on Biodiesel = 30.35p + 2p = £32.35p

Fuel Duty on Bioethanol = 30.35p + 2p = £32.35p

Fuel Duty on LPG = 16.49p/kg + 4.28p/kg = 20.77p/kg

Fuel Duty on CNG = 13.7p/kg + 2.89p/kg = 16.59p/kg

Fuel Duty on Red Diesel = 9.69p + 0.38p = 10.07p

Fuel Duty on Fuel Oil for heating = 9.29p + 0.37p = 9.66p

From 1st April 2009 Road Fuel Duties were (+ 15% VAT):

Fuel Duty on Petrol and Diesel = 54.2p/litre
