A car for a 'Grand Tour of Europe.'

I am retired, 70yrs old, and drive a Berlingo van.

I have bad knee joints and keep a fold up cycle in the back of the van. I rely on this to get around - it is essential kit.

I now want to do a 'Grand Tour of Europe'. My partner has bad osteoarthritis and will not travel long distances in the van. I therefore propose to take the van off the road for 6 months and buy a large, comfortable secondhand luxury saloon for this 12 week, 7000 mile holiday.

The budget for the car is £15K to £20K. My prime requirements are a large, safe and secure boot for the cycle and lots of luggage.

When the holiday is finished I will the sell the car, so a good resale value is important.

My first thoughts are a 3.0-litre diesel Jaguar or a big Mercedes-Benz. What do you suggest?

If you go for the Jaguar, make sure it's on 17" - 19" wheels, not 20". You'll probably get a 'Luxury' spec 3.0-litre 240 diesel for your money.
