Nitrogen Tyre Inflation 15 May 2004 (Forum)
any one know of a dealer who offers nitrogen tyre inflation in the west midlands. -
Nitrogen in Tyres 22 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Anyone heard about using nitrogen in tyres instead of air? I have come across it in Europe before, but the idea seems to be rare here. A search on the web brings up http://www.merityre.co.uk/why_nitrogen.htm but does anyone know if any of the national chains offer it yet? -
Nitrogen Filled Tyres? 12 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Hi All, Has anyone actual practical experience of nitorgen filled tyres? I know that some tyre retailers claim nitrogen keeps tyres inflated for longer thus enhancing tyre life, reducing fuel consumption and 'helping with vehicle handling' - whatever that last bit means. Seems to me it seems like a good scam on behalf of garages to charge a premium to fill a punters tyres with a low cost gas. -
nitrogen gas for tire inflation 24 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I found this while lookimg into tyre life. http://www.nitronics.com/research.htm On my 1989 Range Rover Vogue (US Spec 3.6L with all options) They rot... -
Citroen Xantia - '93 Xantia 1.9 TDI bounces bad 11 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The car rises and lowers normally. The spheres are not broken, there's enough LHM in it. Recently I read something about the nitrogen level in the spheres. Could this be the problem for the bouncing - not enough nitrogen? Thanks in advance. -
Diesels - are they taking the p**s? 27 Sep 2001 (Forum)
A specially converted truck has been fitted with a urea solution injector and is now testing the theory. Dutch scientists hope the urea could reduce diesel emissions by up to 80%. Urea is a nitrogen-rich organic compound found naturally in urine which can now be manufactured. It is injected into a catalytic converter where the heat converts it into ammonia. It then reacts with the harmful nitrogen oxides transforming them into harmless nitrogen and water vapour. -
Nitroinflate anyone ? 24 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I have just had a couple of new tyres fitted and noticed I have been charged £2.50 for a "nitroinflate". Presumably they have inflated the tyres with nitrogen rather than air. I am not quibbling, just interest as to why ? I would imagine nitrogen would diffuse through rubber a little quicker than air. If it is to keep oxygen out of the tyre (to reduce oxidation ?) -
PSA - More recalls 8 Dec 2023 (Forum)
“An incorrect value may be given when the data is processed by the vehicle and this can result in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions that are above regulatory limits” Presumably the Vauxhall equivalent vehicles will also be affected. -
Citroen the 1st Car Manufacturer to use Ad Blue? 19 Mar 2015 (Forum)
BlueHDi powered New Berlingo models have an efficient, three-stage SCR process to treat emissions caused by combustion: – Stage 1: an oxidisation catalyst converts the unburned hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) in the exhaust into water and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) – Stage 2: the SCR module then adds AdBlue to convert nitrogen oxide (NO x) into nitrogen (N) and water – Stage 3: a particulate filter then eliminates 99.9% of particles in the vehicle’s exhaust emissions BlueHDi powered New Berlingo vans have a 17-litre AdBlue tank, which will last for up to 14,000 miles, depending on the type of vehicle operation. -
Any - Boyles law and tyre pressures 11 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Oh dear, HJ seems to have got a bit confused here http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/75465/is-putting-nitrogen-in-tyres-a-good-idea- I thought the only possible advantage of pure N2 as opposed to using air was that the oxygen might degrade the rubber (to a small extent). It has nothing to do with the temperature dependece of the pressure which will be true for all gases. -
EGR valve adjustment. Ford Transit 2.5Di 4 Oct 2012 (Forum)
The valve stays closed all the time and the exhaust stays smoke-free all the time, but of course the oxides of nitrogen are presumably higher than desired. The second method would be to adjust the linkage which controls the butterfly valve which modifies the vacuum which operates the EGR valve. My manual (Haynes) basically says ? -
Does this mean I can still drive a v8? - E-Fuels (Synthetic Fuel) 9 Mar 2021 (Forum)
“ Synthetic fuels are made by extracting hydrogen via renewable energy, and capturing it liquid form with carbon dioxide. Compared to pump fuel, eFuels emit fewer particulates and nitrogen oxide as well.” And for BBD, the press release from Mazda: https://www.mazda-press.com/eu/news/2021/mazda-first-oem-to-join-the-efuel-alliance-/ -
New tyre pressures! 5 May 2009 (Forum)
I had 4 new tyres fitted 2 weeks ago at an independent tyre firm in Derby. These tyres were filled with nitrogen and the fitter was told the correct pressures. I have just checked the pressures with 2 tyre gauges. One was 6psi under inflated, one was 4psi under, one was 3psi under and believe it or not one was the correct pressure. -
Nissan Primera III (1999 - 2002) - 01 2.0 DIY A/C Condenser/Drier replacement 10 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I've just had a leak in my A/C diagnosed via a nitrogen test as being on a small pipe between the condenser and drier (seen with my own eyes). I want to replace the condenser and drier myself and then take the system for evacuation/oil and gas recharge. -
Welding experts?? 10 May 2003 (Forum)
The local aircon specialists reluctantly agreed to get someone to have a go at resealing with a weld since the cost of replacement (if they can find a condenser)is probably as much as the car is worth. After £50 worth of trying they called a halt because nitrogen testing showed pinprick leakage through all three welds tried. The welder (from a different company) wasn't present to explain further. My question is whether there is a welding process that might provide a gas tight seal since the problem seems to lie with the porosity of the materials used. -
CAR EMISSIONS 25 Apr 2001 (Forum)
Buses, lorries, and taxis stand out as the major contributors to urban motor vehicle pollution. An older articulated lorry produces as much particulates as 350 new petrol cars and the nitrogen oxide of 284 new petrol cars. The current generation of petrol cars produces around one-sixteenth of the toxic urban pollution of their non-catalytic converter forerunners.? What do you think? -
USA wakes up to diesel cars ? 9 May 2007 (Forum)
But cleaner diesel and new engines from DaimlerChrysler and Honda that convert harmful emissions into harmless nitrogen could have diesels making inroads. Strategy Analytics predicts that once the new diesel fuel has been approved in the five ultra-low emissions states, which account for 37 percent of hybrid sales, "diesel will challenge hybrid vehicles for the more cost-conscious 'green' consumers -
ouch - 4 new tyres required 3 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I carry heavy loads, in my Espace, and so have always used Michellin Primacy hp, 225/55r/16/95w (x,y,z) this evening I have looked at many companies from "mytyres" good price £116.50 to "Kwik fit" £178, more convenient and often have matched other quotes and several other companies in between. One company mentions that filling the tyres with nitrogen at £1.76 /wheel provides better road handling, upto 25%increase in life expectancy and can reduce fuel consumption - so how come I've never heard of it before and nor has anyone I've spoken to, admittadely non are petrol heads. -
Bridgestone - Tyre anti-ageing treatment? 17 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Since tyres are oxidised internally by the air fill, it seems likely that nitrogen inflation could prolong their life. I didn't find much on exterior protection (as opposed to cosmetic treatment) on the net though there's quite a bit on tyre softening treatments to (illegally, mostly) make racing tyres stickier. -
Private Hire Taxi Emissions Regulations 2020? 25 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Govt plan for clean air zones by 2020 in major cities in which I live in bham. The plan is to reduce Nitrogen Dioxide causing up to 1000 early deaths a year per city. Is there any financial help or grant to buy such vehicles? Which car brand manufacturers have been know to cheat on their emission tests?
