Pet Hates volume 5298.4 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)
PHotD3: Impatient PFDs. Once I'd got in to the queue, some idiot in a Golf decided he was far too important to wait with the rest of us, so sailed down past us, though a hatched area, through a right turn for traffic coming the other way, the wrong way around and island and in to the much shorter queue to turn right. -
Picasso, Scenic or Another? 16 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Being quite petite - 5'2, size 10, seat height, steering reach/rake adjustment and good visibilty are all very important to her and she's especially keen on a high seating position. With our intended budget of upto £7K (ideally like to spend only 5-6K) VFM is a big priority - the current short-list contains a (3'ish yr old) Scenic or Picasso. -
Golf Mk 5 Buying Decision 10 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I currently run a Golf TDI 130 mark 4 model. I bought it new two and a half years ago as an EU import, after I had to hurriedly reject a new Mini Cooper. The Golf has been faultlessly reliable, there are no squeaks or rattles and the engine is smoother and zippier than ever. Running in took a while though, exclusive use of Shell Diesel and 18 mile part motorway commute to work probably helped. -
Potholes and Road Safety 29 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Give them a buzz and ask for the highways department\' I am sure we are all aware of the many places where there are potholes and defective road surfaces, so if we all did something by making a phonecall, perhaps more would be done to make the roads a better place. It is important to note that out of the road tax we pay, Ride found only 16% (approx) is actually spent on the roads. The rest is spent elsewhere, which means the money is there but is spent in my opinion fraudulently on something else. -
DC if you like, just me and my new car 15 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Living as I do in Asia I am always in awe of the respect for detail and doing things right which permeates the various regional cultures, and the auto industry is no exception. Got something to crow about. As a result of new excise tax regs favoring locally built cars vs imports, tax on which is set to rise drastically, prices in the Land of Sun and Fun will come down about 3% next week . Along with that and discount for cash I shall be driving away next week in a nice new Philippines built Ford Lynx 1.3 (Mazda-derived engine) fuel-injected with M/T, silver-gold metallic, proper full size car and the normal goodies for about GBP6,300 in recently appreciated Pounds against the Peso from the Growler Inc offshore slush fund my accountant doesn't know about and my ex-wife only suspects exists but can't prove. -
Change of mindset 9 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Policeman took zero notice, but carried on conversation. Now, clearly the policeman was involved in in more important things than worrying about his illegal parking, the illegal parking of the motorbike, the cycling the wrong way, the travelling through a red light or the high speed pavement chase. But it made me grumpy. -
Alfa 156 wipers? 9 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I purchased a new Alfa 156 T Spark in November 2000, through an import company. During the first year I had various problems that were dealt with by the manufacturer's warranty. One persistant problem was the 'slapping ' of the windscreen wipers on the side of the windscreen. -
Bye bye Xantia 9 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Parkers give £1455 for good, £790 trade and £330 fair, I'd guess since it's all working fine I should try something nearer the trade price. Parkers say that condition is more important than mileage on older cars. [Mark/Martyn, I'm not actually trying to sell it here, I've just put down the detail for advice, hope that's OK, otherwise please remove - Thanks] Any advice, as ever, much appreciated. -

Lexus RX 450h - Lexus Dealership 1 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I chose 3 different types of vehicles, of which I test drove, with the following criteria/ tick boxes, in order of importance. 1. My comfort. 2. Tracy being a lot shorter than me, could drive the car, my partner, who has little legs lol. 3. Would tow our caravan. 4. Can be converted to mobility controls, of which at the time was as you see the least important. -
G-Wiz no parking or congestion charges 10 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Knowing electric vehicles would be exempt from the congestion charges about to be applied in London, they successfully bid for UK import rights and won first refusal on rights to sales in mainland Europe. Having tested the safety of the G-Wiz and secured pan-European Type Approval, they head-hunted Mr Johnston, handed him ?the keys to the business? -
\'Ere we go. Again. 18 Apr 2004 (Forum)
England played like a bunch of ..well I won\'t say that because you can\'t any more since New Labour banned free speech. We were looking at a wide array of recently imported spotless Harleys this a.m.. Bertrand being a bit of a French poofter (don\'t worry I always call him thus and he isn\'t insulted in the least and he gives as good as he gets, but this being a family forum so I can\'t say what he calls me...) goes for this beautiful turquoise and cream 2002 Heritage Softail. -
Sub £3k Petrol Estate vs Petrol MPV 3 Mar 2024 (Forum)
It would only be doing around 3k miles a year though. As we currently live on one income, cheap to own is also important. My current car is hideously expensive to own so it has to go, I expect to get around £3k for it which sets my budget to change vehicle. The larger items I can carry, the better. Think bathtubs, lengths of timber, bags of cement, rolls of carpet. -
Trailer - Incorrect advice ref: Towing limits. 29 Jan 2024 (Forum)
In my opinion, the towing capacity of your car should not be more than 85 per cent of your vehicle's kerb weight. The individual and combined weights of the vehicle and the trailer are among the most important things you need to know before towing. It’s vital that you stick to them; exceed them, and you’re breaking the law. The Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) or Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) tells you how much a vehicle or a trailer can legally weigh in order to be used on the road, while the Gross Train Weight (GTW) or Gross Combination Weight (GCW), is the total, permitted weight of the vehicle, the trailer and everything it’s carrying. -
Worcester 8000 Style 50w Viessmann Vitodens 111-W - Worcester 8000 Style 50w Viessmann Vitodens 111- 1 Jan 2021 (Forum)
I choose this one as most installers can do it with ease, it seems this range have improved in terms of design in case anything goes wrong and it has 18 l/m flow rate which is very important for me for a big house, comes with at least 10 years warranty and seem to have easy enough interface. but its very new to the market and there aren't many reviews on them 2.Viessmann Vitodens 111-W 35kW Storage Combination Boiler A whole new design a combi boiler that also have a storage so I can imagine it would be something between system and combi, I believe their built quality is better than worcester as they are german and have stainless steel heat exchanger, but I think if anything goes wrong they are more expensive to fix, this one also has 18 l/m. -
MG ZS 2017 - Condensed update at 8 Months 25 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Venga no longer sold, and the Kia Stonic is smaller inside than the Venga, and has very poor headroom, and prices higher. Plenty of room inside and large boot with room for a full size spare, (important for me.) Touchscreen info system good. Drives better than reviews, and comfortable seats with good support. Steering absolutely fine. Fuel economy better than the Venga, so pleased so far. -
servicing by numbers-which is best? 3 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I bought the car to come out of the company car scheme and reclaim my mileage at the HMRC allowed rates, so it was important to get it right about service costs and balance the effect upon the car. The dealer was very good and recommended that with my mileage and usage the extended services made sense. I had to use very expensive long life oil in the engine but apart from that servicing costs were the same. -
Hyundai i20 1.2 litre Comfort 5 dr - Gross Negligence - Annual Service and MOT 25 May 2017 (Forum)
On arrival the servicing documentation seemed rather lacking - with 43,000 miles on the clock, I was expecting a detailed report on the state of wear on my brake pads and discs all round - all unchanged from new, but apparently the technician had made no report on these important items. I was told not to worry as the car had passed its MOT and received the pass certificate plus the exhaust emissions and brake test readouts. With this being a full annual service just before the 5 year warranty expired, I would have expected a detailed report on the whole braking system as I can only inspect the brake pad wear on the outer pads by viewing through the alloy wheel spokes whereas, surely the annual service would include removal of all the road wheels to enable a proper inspection and report to be made? -
Toyota Corolla (1997 to 2002) - 1997 1332cc 4E-FE corolla 20 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Bit of glue does the trick. On the whole, very impressed. It's dull as ditchwater to drive, mind, but that's not important to me. Hopefully I can prevent it rusting and get many years out of it. TR -
BMW X3 - Family Car 2 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Therefore, we would like some help finding something new. The most important things we would like to change about our current car are: - boot (we need slightly bigger, and ability to transport two small dogs) - more cabin space - higher driving position - more off-road ability and snow driving capability - better fuel efficiency In terms of boot, we don't need massive, just enough space for shopping/buggy and occasionally dog transportation.
