  Both are around the 06 / 07 with approx 50k. I would want to remap the A4 to make it as quick as the Golf but would that increase the risk of DPF issues, or does the 140 engine not have a DPF like the 170? Ideally I wanted a BMW 320d M Sport but with an upcoming wedding to pay for and a holiday its not going to happen! Im not going for the newer Octavia vRS or Leon FR as the missus is a badge snob and dont need the grief as ive had loads already plus ive read reports that the build quality isnt as good as the Golf or Audi.

  I would like to be able to interrogate and reset parameters particularly around the diesel Eolys and DPF data if poss, or at least see live data of what is going on. I like to do my own work as far as possible and farm out more complex stuff. Any recommendations please? Budget will be up to a couple of hundred ( I know PSA models are more complex)

  On 1 hand diesels are going out of fashion and being targeted for higher taxes but the 1.4 tsi is £110 road tax while the 1.6 is free and 2.0 is £20. With the TSI you dont get DPF and EGR faults but apart from that what the the benefits of the petrol over the diesel? Looking at 2014-2015 mk7. Will.appreciate any tips and is it worth paying the extra £1000 for the 1.4 tsi over the 1.6 tdi

  My parents  are contemplating  movine to warmer climates, Malta is the island  in question. My dad wants to take his car with him a 2014 Jaguar xf 3.0 diesel. The car has a dpf  and he hasn't had any trouble  with it and he doesn't do much motorway miles but he loves the car and wants to take it with him as it will be cheaper  to import  than buy out there.

  The actions recommended in the handbook are not clearing the problem for very long, last time less than a week from it being cleared by the garage. so several questions: Have VW recognised this problem and come up with some longer term solutions?  Is there an approved fuel additive I could use? What is the future for DPF are changes on the way?

  It's going to do about 10,000 miles a year, mainly on short journeys and so reading about DPF's and other scary diesel problems, I'm heading over towards a 1.6 petrol engine. Are these reliable? I've not read a good thing about the EGS auto gearbox either, so I think it'll have to be a manual.

  I'm thinking of changing our Renault Grand Scenic for an Espace, but heard so many horror stories about the engines going bang, the later 2.0 version may be a better engine, but aren't they all saddled with DPFs so impractical unless used mainly on Motorways ? Is it best avoided altogether ? Cheers   F

  Hi Folks, I am contemplating buying a used 2007 Mazda 3 2.0 litre diesel from a trade garage. Having read so much about DPF issues etc i would welcome the company of an experienced engineer to advise if it is a good buy or not. Happy to pay a small fee for your troubles. I am viewing the car near Bristol on Wed 16th in the afternoon.

    Specifically want an automatic, but probably can't pay the premium for the diesel version, and only make short journey's anyway with very infrequent motorway miles, so a bit bothered about DPF issues.  Thefore want  petrol version. Fuel economy aside, Is there much difference between the 1.6 and 1.8 petrol versions in an automatic? .... Have heard that the 1.6 Astra ecoflex is a bit weedy.

  But I have heard with my low mileage (5,000 miles/year) there might be problems in a TDI with the filter (DPF) or flywheel (DMF). The sales guy said there are no such problems with the TDI. Another sales guy, in a different dealership,  said there would be! Who do I believe?

  Any info pertaining to the Mazda 3 2 or 1.6 diesel engine would be useful, i.e belt driven or chain, has it got dpf, does it use Eolsys (?spelling), does the enging have any known weeknesses to date, is the engine a designed Mazda engine or some other manufacture. Is the engine shared with any other car or manufacturer?
