  They were charging, but were putting out around 16v before they blew. I`ve now put in a new unit, and a new battery, am still getting a 16v reading at the battery. Figures are- ignition off 14v, idle 14.5, Rev it a bit and I`m back to 15,9-16v. I then cut the engine before I burn out this one! I have tried setting the alt. up with a separate battery, isolated from the rest of the car, and get a reading of 14,7v at the battery.

  How many minutes of running does an average modern car take to replenish the electrical energy taken from the battery to start its petrol engine from cold? I remember hearing in the past that it took at least 15 minutes, but that was a very long time ago and cars back then didn't have all the electrical accessories and gadgets that they have these days.

  Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anyone knows where the siren alarm battery is on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee? It is appearing with a fault on the ECU and also won’t let me lock the car as after it’s set it automatically starts sounding! Any ideas would be much appreciated!

  The battery light comes on when I am above 3000revs but goes off again if I drop below. There is also a whirring sort of sound when I accelerate or rev the car but the acceleration is as normal. I'm wondering if this could be the belt slipping or badly worn making the noise and the light come on or possibly the clutch pulley on the alternator.

  All 'normal' lights lit on dashboard, turn key and all we get is a clicking sound from engine. Took battery out and re-charged - no effect, still won't start. Battery is original in car - 10 years old, although still has green marker showing on top of battery. Any ideas ?

  We have just fitted the fourth battery in five years to our 05 2.2 diesel auto Grande Espace. The Renault garage has no ideas and don't seemd to think this is odd. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? The last one lasted 3 months and that was after the alternator had also been changed.

  Can anyone tell me how long a battery should take to charge. I've put two new ones in this car, each went flat, and each have taken 5 hours to charge when they went flat. Is that right?? I thought they would be charged in a couple of hours?

  I passed a motor spare/accessories shop today and they had a promotion of solar powered battery chargers. These are laid on the dashtop and plug into the cigarette lighter. Basically they seem like a good idea. However although I would not heitate to use one on an older car I was wondering about modern electrics with anti-theft and immobiliser circuitery.
