Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 04 2.0 Smoke on start up 22 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I have seen this fault mentioned on forums before, but there has been no suggestion as to the cause. Being reasonably familiar with diesel engines this is the sort of smoke you get when there is excess fuel at start up i.e. it is effectively unburnt fuel, and this would be consistent with its smell. The car always starts very quickly so it is not due to diesel building up due to long cranking before starting. -
Ford S-MAX - White smoke from under bonnet. Losing the will! Please help :-) 25 Feb 2023 (Forum)
It was a perished O ring on the fuel line. Driven car again and white smoke still coming out from under the bonnet. My question is... could this simply be the diesel that had leaked burning off or should I take it somewhere else for investigation? -
VW Sharan 2007 2.0 diesel - Fuel / strong smell in VW Sharan without engine ru 5 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Hi everyone, hoping someone can help. We have a 2007 VW Sharan 2.0 diesel, bought in April 2019 with 13,000 genuine miles on the clock. It's now on 20k. For the last week we've noticed a strong smell in the car when the car has been parked overnight or even left for 2 hours with doors closed. -
Honda CR-V III (2007 - ) - Who sells the most economical diesel for my car? 18 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Is this because I am now through the 1500 miles mark, because I am using Shell rather than Morrisons or Tescos(amongst others) or is there another reason. If it is the Shell fuel, is there any other make that will give me even better fuel mileage? -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 93 diesel starting problems. 4 Dec 2007 (Forum)
It would not restart so i tryed to bump it it started but immediately died and still wont restart. It turns over fine but just wont get going. I changed the fuel filter and plenty of fuel came out, but now it doesn't seem to be getting fuel thru it when i press the self prime button. It did do this once before in the same spot lol but managed to get it started about an hour later after just leaving it it did take awhile of cranking tho but started and ran fine since. -
Rover 420 SDI 2 litre turbo diesel fault 31 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Interestingly, if the engine is turned off for a short period (say 5 mins) after even just a mile or two from cold, it runs perfectly when re-started. The coolant temperature sensor, fuel filter and the glow plugs have been renewed. I only use Shell diesel fuel, never supermarket products. Any ideas? Thank you, -
Air leak in fuel system [Diesel] 3 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Xantia 1.9 TD 1995 92000m NB. Same Xantia as in Smokey start thread. I'm pretty sure I've got a leak somewhere in the fuel lines, when the engine is cold is runs rough for 5-10 seconds before smoothing out. After that its fine. Filters, oil etc & glow plugs are fine (brand new Beru), theres no major smoking though if you rev it while its having its coughing fit it will puff white smoke but not a great deal. -

Astra diesel cold starting 3 Dec 2002 (Forum)

Non-ECU Diesels 5 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Cavalier Replacement? thread, David Woollard made the point: ?It is still a point everyone has to learn that ECU fuel injection in old cheap cars is going to be a major problem in years to come, often they aren't worth fixing.? He went on to suggest a (non-ECU) Xantia diesel. This is a point that is regularly made, for the benefit of those of us that don? -
Fuel (What do you do?) 28 Mar 2008 (Forum)
But at present I have been using a Shell garage, which is about 3 miles from me as it is always about 2p cheaper for its fuel (diesel) Also every garage I drive by I am now looking at there price for there fuel. (Never bothered before) What do other back roomers do? -
Effects of electical items on your fuel economy 10 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I was watching an old repeat of Top Gear the other night where Clarkson drove an A8 Diesel from Lonfon-Edinburgh and Back. He was saying that he turned the heating off to save fuel econmy, likewise he was driving on side lights in the rain rather than dipped beam. Now I know that the air con compressor will increase fuel consumption but would you really notice extra fuel being used by using your heater? -
Speedsters galore, fuel must be too cheap 4 Jun 2008 (Forum)
