Ford Fiesta 1.25 2000 - Clutch not operating after replacement 30 Nov 2020 (Forum)
It specifies a very low torque (below the range on my wrench) for the bolts that fit the slave cylinder to the inside of the bellhousing, saying this is important for correct functioning of the pre-load valve. As I don't have a pre-load valve fitted, I did these bolts up normally and don't know if this is critical or not. I really don't relish the thought of taking that box out again, so I'd be interested to know whether anyone thinks this is still an air in the system issue or whether any other causes would give the same feel to the pedal. -
Citroen Xsara Picasso - Clunking Noise 17 May 2020 (Forum)
The one thing i have noticed is that the Coil spring and shock mount on the problematic side have been mounted facing the opposite way to the passenger side, if that's important. Any help appreciated -

Mercedes-Benz GLA - Mini Countryman, Volvo XC40 or Mercedes GLA 22 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Volvo XC40 - As we have 2 kids and stay at our familie's houses often then practicality and big boot is important so i'venever owend a volvo but hear they're very practical. Merc GLA- We've had an audi q3 as our last motobility car and it's been a pleasure although we aren't keen on the Q2 as it has a smaller boot, this merc seems like a good option as it is comparable in many ways. -
MINI Cooper - Mini DCT automatic 7 Jun 2019 (Forum)
My wife needs a new car to commute about 40 mins up the A1 every day. The interior look is important to her. She's considering either a Mini Cooper or a Mercedes A180 petrol. Both would have to be automatics as that's all she can drive. I understand both cars use a 7 speed DCT automatic box which as far as I can tell is supplied by Getrag. -

Toyota Auris Touring Sports - Which 2015 Petrol Estate? - Auris or Ceed? 18 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Will keep the car for at least 5 years. Not looking for toys or enjoyment, price and reliability is most important, so been looking at Japanese & Korean. The Honda Civic estate was first choice, but there's limited choice and therefore a premium, so boiled it down to the Kia Ceed and Toyota Auris. I've found these that both have Full Service History and registered in October 2015, so I assume the Kia has 3+ years warranty left and the Toyota 1+ year. -
Moving to rural Wales and need a new vehicle... 3 Jan 2019 (Forum)
- Will cost around the £7-8k mark. I've already done a bit of reading about, and probably the most important thing I've learnt so far is that a set of winter tyres will serve you much better in poor weather than a 4x4 with normal tyres. But will be interested to hear what anyone thinks about that. I'll show my hand... -

Hello everyone. I have some important queries answered regarding a car I am looking to buy. I currently own a 9N3 Polo E and I'm looking to upgrade to a MK6 SE 1.4 TSI 122. So the car in question is a 2009 MK6 Golf 86K in Huddersfield for just over £4.5k - Full service history and receipts but no MOT as of yet Sounds good? -
Moral dilemma re part ex 7 Jul 2018 (Forum)
The supplying dealer agreed to take my motorcycle in part ex, offering £4500, which I’m happy with. It’s an import, so in view of the paperwork, it should be delivered in 2-3 weeks. In the meantime I saw on a Facebook bikers group, that someone was looking for a bike like mine, he viewed it this week, and agreed to buy it for over £5000. -
Honda Jazz - Looking for.. 6 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I'd like the 98bhp version, and nothing older than a 12 plate with less than 35k miles if possible. Colour not particularly important. ;0) Just wondering what, if anything else I should look for where sourcing the car. How do Jazz owners find the seats for comfort? The indy garage owner who sold us the B Max has said he is willing to source a Jazz and take mine in part ex, but before I do that, I want to be absolutely sure that he knows what we want. -
Honda Jazz - Jazz again...sorry. 5 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I know we said the Jazz wasn't suitable because Mrs A struggled with the seats, but we've both agreed that a) I can put on my gentleman's hat and help her get in and out of the car a bit more, and b) ride comfort on medium and long journeys is a more important consideration than getting in and out of the car. It will have 12 months MOT and 3 months standard warranty unless I can negotiate anything longer. Any comments or suggestions between now and about 1pm this afternoon welcome. -
any - ignore list? 13 Mar 2017 (Forum)
We've had some very skilled mechanics here in the past who took the trouble to answer intricate queries which have saved people money, pass on specialist (sometimes makers) instructions via emails etc, in many cases (eg PSA Diesel of Doom turbo lunching when fitted to Ford Focus thread springs to mind) the instructions were copied and pasted in full only a couple of posts up yet the new poster who's time is presumably more important still asking the original mechanic for instructions, few have the decency to thank them for their trouble, little wonder these decent chaps are seldom if ever heard from now. -
Audi A3 2.0 TDI 220000KM - I'd like your opinion - URGENT 22 Mar 2016 (Forum)
We were supposed to set a meeting on Audi for me to make a final report of the car and consider its status. My question is, will this be a reliable business? He has replaced most of the important things but even though the car might give the same issues again? I am considering it as I will not make much KM as I will use the car mostly on weekends. I would like to hear from you with quite urgency as I am about to make a decision on it. -
various - Company car choices 13 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I have to choose a car from the following list for 30k (20k business and rest private) miles per year. Boot space not majorly important although I will occasionaly carry 2 dogs. BIK is roughly the same cost and business fuel will be covered by fuel card What would you recommend? Audi A3 Sportback 1.6 Tdi 110 SE 5 door MY2016 Ford Mondeo Hatchback 1.5 TDCi Zetec [Nav] MY2015.75 Honda Civic 1.6 Diesel i-DTEC SR 5 door hatchback Honda Civic 1.6 Tourer I-DTEC SE+ Nav VW Golf Diesel Hatchback 1.6 TDI 110 Match MY2016 M/Benz A180d SE 5dr MY2016 Skoda Superb Diesel Hatchback 1.6 Tdi CR SE Business MY2016 Vaux Mokka 1.6 CDTi ecoFLEX Tech Line MY2016 Volvo S60 D3 Business Edition (150) Volvo V40 Diesel D2 (120) SE Nav 5 door (FOC Rear Parking Sensors) Volvo V60 D2 Business Edition (120) I'm leaning to either the Civic SR or Skoda Superb as they have the best spec from what I can see.... -
Mazda 5 - Mazda 5 Diesel, yes....I know.....help please :( 22 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I am suspecting the HP pump but really think I need a Diesel Jesus to confirm this (or otherwise) and help as this car is important to us as the main family steed. As of now, the problem is no longer intermittent (which would help diagnosing at least) but that could obviously change as it has done in the past. -
Volvo V70 - Volvo V70 or Accord Tourer 30 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I'll be doing reasonable mileage on all sorts of roads plus at least a couple of trips to Southern France with 2 dogs and, normally, some kind of furniture and luggage so motorways are important. I'd like another Volvo V70 but I'm not a fan of the new shape and the older shape (same as my current one) seem expensive second hand over there unless they have intergalactic mileage. -
Small automatic runabouts and rental cars 6 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Well no I wouldn't because of all sorts of reasons mainly related to feeling good about oneself when driving up to appointments, or into the car park of the (golf club/gym/church/synagogue)* delete as appropriate. Were I to move to overseas where the most important factor is cost and air-conditioning I could seem myself in both but most likely the Splash. Has anyone ever radically changed their car after renting one overseas? -

I know nothing about how cars work (and have very little interest in finding out!!!). However I do understand the importance of maintaining them correctly - both cars are serviced when required and the oil level/tyre pressures etc are checked at least every 2 weeks. I was wondering if it is normal for a low mileage Mini to use such a lot of oil.
