ECUs 14 Oct 2001 (Forum)
With all cars nowadays having ECUs what do you independant garage owners or mechanics do when you need to diagnose engine or other faults. Is there such a thing as a common diagnostic tool which can be adjusted to suit the paramaters of all cars, or do you have to take customers cars to main dealers with the manufacturers supplied equipment. -

Merc E220 W124 ECU 25 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Our local Merc specialist changed the throttle body (300 quid), still no joy, he now says that the diagnosis computer points to the ECU (1000 quid). He also got a merc engineer to look at it. We have referred HJ's FAQ in the process but the problem seems to be different. Is there a way of avoiding 1000 quid by re-conditioning the ECU or getting an exchange unit. -
Vauxhall Vectra C - [Vectra C] [02-03] How to change/replace Airbag EC 14 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I managed to find a group of local Airbag ECU engineers, who will probably to this for £60. But, I can try it myself if its just a matter of removing the existing unit and replacing it. Trouble is that I don't know where the airbag ECU is fitted and how to get access to it. -
Mondeo TDCi ECU updates / warming up 23 Mar 2012 (Forum)
I had come to the view that it was approx end 2002 to end 2003 models that were worst effected by the ECU issues, and that earlier and later cars were OK. I wonder if I should ask the dealer to reinstall the earlier ECU software? Does anyone else have a similar experience? Regards. -

The battery isn't charging (it's new) and we believe the alternator is okay. I seem to remember that the charging is controlled by an ecu and that it's a common problem for these to die. Anyone know if this is the case and what can be done to repair without having to mortgage the kids -

Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - 02 2.0 ECU/Fuel Pump 4 May 2008 (Forum)
When my Astra (2.0 tdi 2002) warms up the rev needle drops to zero and it starts idling. A diagnostic check later and one mechanic claims that the fuel pump needs replacing as does the ECU and another says its the ECU and faulty speed sensor. The total cost of repair (from each mechanic) is about £700 (plus VAT) not to mention the labour. Has anybody had a similar problem and do they know a cheaper method of resolving this?
