• Air-Con Stinks - Vectra-C 19 Jun 2005 (Forum)
  I own a 2004 Vectra Sri.I am the 2nd owner.When I use the air-con and then turn it off,after a while there is a "stale" smell.It smells like sweaty socks (I imagine).The dealer told me they drained and recharged the system, but it's much the same.How do I get rid of this??

  Hi, I've got a '98 Scenic 1.9dTi with air-con. The heater fan only seems to have one speed, like it's stuck on full blast. All six settings are the same speed. Off works fine! Any idea what could cause this? Thanks!

  hi all my air con isnt getting cold went to halfords to get recharged the guy said there was a blocked pipe recomended going to kwik fit so they could discharge the system and refill it . went to kwik fit they say theres a leak and it cant be done with out going to a specialist not knowing much about air con im confused if there was a blocked pipe have kwikfit done something and burst a pipe or something any replys ?

  My 4+ year old 2.1TD has covered 25,000 miles, and is usually driven with the air-con "on" and the temperature set at 22 degrees. After about 10 miles of driving, the warm air flow turns cold and stays cold, unless the lever is moved to the "red". My Citroen dealer has looked at it twice and can find nothing wrong, implying I don't know how to use it.

  I've looked through the FAQ section of the site but would appreciate any additional advice. When I switch my air con on a get a damp smell which eventually clears. Also if I switch it off while travelling, it tends to steam up the front windscreen and the air gets a warm a damp smell which takes quite a while to disperse!

  During Sept 02 he had the air con serviced and the fault was a bad earth on the compressor that was rectified by bypassing it. At the time the garage noted that the compressor was slightly noisy. When I press the air con switch no light shows but there is a small change in engine revs.

  These noises are not there if air con is off so its certainly air con related. Have been told its nothing to worry about as ford air con is know to make a few noises like this but just wanted to check here.

  My 406 has developed an air-con leak in the pipe between the low pressure valve and compressor. Haynes refer to the pipe as "click on" presumably at the valve end and at the compressor end the connection is referred to as  H/PAD.

  The Mechanical Guru who works on the firm\'s Cavalier has a Mitsubishi pick up X plate. Air Con has packed up and a new matrix thingy has been diagnosed. Mitsubishi want an arm and a leg...he has identified it as being made by Axel, Axil or Axle. An Internet search has proved fruitless any ideas ?

  I have to say though, despite being re-gassed it doesnt seem much colder, and now there is a musty smell that wasnt there before it was done! The manual recommends using the air intake on fresh and using face air jets, which I do, but i need the keep the temperature dial on coldest setting to get enough cold air out. Am I expecting too much of air-con (or the Corolla's air con) or should I be able to get my car feeling like a fridge??

  Now we have this hot weather, The air con is luke warm/cold , But not ice cold , But then it will run cold for a matter of a minute and then back to luke warm.   I am going to take advantage of a free air con check at Protyers next week and i have just spoke with the service manager who explained that my car should be OK or they would not have been able to Re gas in December, So i thought that i would ask your thoughts before i go and take it for a Air con Check .

  Good morning, The air con on our 2016 Hyundai Tucson has stopped working. It runs warm and has developed a slight rattle type noise. My initial thought was to get it regassed. I took it to our local branch of ProTyres who very helpfully did a free check for me.

  Hi, Took my car into Nissan today to diagnose two problems. One was the ignition coil which I'm replacing myself. The other is the air con. They said it is definitely the compressor. I can get them on ebay for 40 quid. Car is 13 years old but I like it. I am thinking to perhaps wait to see if it gets through the MOT in November and if all okay then sort the air con, well get a professional I know to.

  I bought a New Beetle 1.6 two years ago; since I had already bumped its' price up somewhat with Alloys and Metallic Paint, I decided not to add Air-Con (although, to be fair, with that lot on, the price went up to the same as the 2.0 Beetle!). But I now want to fit air-con onto it. Some advice - I reckon that, although I'm sure I won't get my money back on the install come sale time, would I be right in thinking that, in 3 years time, selling a non-aircon car for premium money is going to be hard ?

  Hi all, I may be buying a '99 Ford Focus and need your advice on the air con. When you put it on full belt (setting 4) it isn't really that powerful - there is definitely something coming out but when you switch it to the recirculated air feature it becomes a lot more powerful.

  There is one air con relay and two fuses for the engine cooling fans, but strangely the manual states that one of these fuses should be replaced by a Ford dealer for some reason ! The air con button light stills works though - does this indicate that the fuses and relay are OK ?

    Anyway I ended up paying another ford dealer to identify the problem and though disinterested they said it was the air con clutch and best to replace that and the air con compressor.  They identified it having also seen the above video.   Took it back to the selling dealership and they apparently changed the above and re-gassed, but same noise as soon as I switched air con on.
