A Grand Monday: Renault 25 GTS Auto 12 Jun 2017 (News)
. Although it never achieved huge sales over here, the R25 was a moderate success in the UK and was often sold as part of a fleet package deal by Renault UK. Indeed, it enjoyed a nine-year production run, from 1984 until 1993, where it remained a leftfield alternative to a Ford Granada or Rover 800 , with handling and ride comfort that bettered both. But as buyers moved away from the mainstream premium models, depreciation hit such models hard. -

A Grand Monday: Saab 900 14 Nov 2016 (News)
The original Saab 900 is one such car. Launched in 1978, it enjoyed a lengthy production run, remaining on sale for 15 years. It was also exquisitely well built, made from heavy gauge steel, over-engineered yet mechanically straightforward. The later models, from the 1987 facelift onwards, were even better, with Saab ironing out the car’s known weak points, giving it the durability of a cockroach or flu virus – extremely hard to kill off. -
Four in ten drivers admit to speeding in 20mph zones 6 Sep 2016 (News)
So does exceeding the 20mph limit make that much difference to safety? The answer is a resounding yes. Research shows that if a child runs into the road three car lengths ahead, a driver travelling at 30mph will not be able to stop in time and will still be travelling at 28mph when they hit the child. But a driver travelling at 20mph should just be able to stop in time, providing they are paying attention, have well-maintained brakes and are driving in dry conditions. It's something many drivers are aware of and yet more than a quarter of drivers surveyed say they exceed a 20mph limit at least once a month and over one in five admit to driving much faster than the 20mph speed limit on a weekly basis. -

Skoda Fabia vRS (2010-) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
The TSI packs plenty of punch - like a race horse punching its way out of a paper bag – and is always huge fun to drive, revving happily all the way to the red line without running out of steam. Unusually, the Fabia vRS comes with a DSG gearbox as standard – there’s no manual available. The twin-clutch gearbox is a variant of the one used in the Octavia but has been tweaked to fit with the smaller TSI engine and as a result has a seemingly excessive seven speeds. -

A Grand Monday: Fiat Tempra, £375 16 May 2016 (News)
At such a low price, there’s every chance the vendor will simply give up and scrap it, or it might even get bought as a run-it-till-it-drops banger by someone who just needs a cheap set of wheels. And while the Fiat Tempra S is hardly an Italian thoroughbred that’s going to have a queue of aficionados lining up to be ‘Il Pilote’, to lose such a rare car would be a crying shame. -

With the engine running, the height corrector will kick in and the ride height can be reset and the bolt re-torqued. If that doesn’t work, you may have to replace the height corrector. These can be picked up for around £50 secondhand or £120 (plus VAT) new. -

Finally, an Auntie Rover. This one is a 75 P3 that marked the transition from the running-board Rovers of the 1930s to the cyclops P4 of the 1950s. I owned one in 1970-71. Under the ancient bodywork are postwar generation overhead inlet, side exhaust valve 1.6 fours and 2.1 sixes that also saw service in Land Rovers; hydraulic front and mechanical rear brakes; a Bowden cable freewheel; and experimental independent suspension. These cars actually handle far better than you might expect, just watch out for rust in the front wings and rear spring hangers. -
