  It’s finished in Pearlescent Amaranth, a metallic purple hue offered by Rover Group for just three years in the mid-1990s. It’s a bold and striking colour, and in our view it sets off the R8’s wedge-shaped lines beautifully. With a low mileage of just 64,000 and almost a year’s MoT, it’s as fit as the proverbial fiddle, and should we ever get a summer that lasts more than three days, it’s a perfect occasional-use classic.

Enthusiasts looking for a winter project can choose from a 3.4-litre 1966 Jaguar S-type with overdrive (£3000-£6000) or a 1990 Range Rover Vogue SE A Classic. The 4x4 has not been used on the road for many years but, as it’s served as a runaround on the vendor’s estate, it runs and is offered at no reserve.

But it was a 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Supersport that racked up the highest price of day at £99,000 including premium - almost £40,000 beyond its lower estimate.

  Although the gold P-reg 825 that appeared in the series is thought to have been scrapped, the S-reg replica is currently for sale on eBay at £1160 . The graffiti is actually a wrap and so is easy enough to remove from the five-door automatic.  With 86,000 miles on the clock, the seller says it drives smoothly and has a good service history.

  The M1's wedge-shaped coachwork proved highly efficient aerodynamically, needing very little in the way of additional spoilers and wings, even in race configuration. The M1 sold for £303,900. Further sales included a 1938 Jaguar SS100 3½-Litre Roadster, which made £337,500; a 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT Berlinetta (£281,500); and a modern classic 1996 Porsche 993 911 RS Clubsport Coupé (£281,500).

  Power comes from a lithium-ion battery, positioned between the axles and below the passenger compartment, to lower the Q6's centre of gravity. There are no details about charging times or if the battery will be included in the list price of the car or leased as part of a monthly fee.  As the name implies, the Q6 will sit between the Q5 and Q7 in the Audi range and will combine an SUV body with a coupe-like cabin.

  Showing a believed genuine mileage of 13,932, the Dino sold for £132,250. Other auction highlights included a brace of classic Porsches, with a fine 1973 911 S 2.4 Targa selling for £105,800 (£20,000 above estimate) while a 1989 911 930 Turbo, with just over 24,000 miles on the clock, achieved £92,000. The sale also set a new auction record for a Fiat 500D Convertible.

This has been the subject of a comprehensive, bare shell, restoration. It is fully equipped for historic rallying, with competition seats, a full six-point rmoll cage, full harness and a custom centre rally console with pilot switches.
