Vauxhall Astra - Alternator 'Ripple too big' and flat battery 5 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Hello, I am trying to get to the bottom of a problem I am having. Battery keeps running flat, its only a few months old so took it back to where I bought it and they did a voltmeter test (?) that showed that the battery was good and that the alternator voltage was good but it had a 'ripple too big'. -
VW Camper - Halford's battery guarentee 17 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Figures given were under 12 volt or over 14.5 ( which I said was far too high)and I would have to bring vechicle in for a test. This showed battery at 12 point something, with engine running13.6 and with "everything" on the same 13.6. I was now told there was no manufacture's fault and nothing could be done as it was over a year old. They were told that as it was not holding a charge it was not performing as a car battery should etc as per "sales of goods act" Result but with same guarentee running out as on old battery. -
VW Polo 1.4 CL 1997 - VW Polo Alternator Fault (New Alternator) 15 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I have a VW Polo 1.4 CL 1997 as above. The car wouldn't start one day so I assumed it was the battery and bump started it. This worked fine. A few weeks later I had the same problems so assumed the battery was dead. I bought a new battery and the went flat in about two days so then assumed it was the alternator. -
FIAT Scudo (2007 - ) - 2000 2.0td van - alarm is discharging the battery. 25 May 2008 (Forum)
poor builders van I bought 3 years ago it has factory alarm fitted which kept going off and annoying everyone near my house including me so as a short term measure i cut the wire to the alarm horn it still whent off continually but was now silent, however it seems to be flattening the battery I bought a new one last winter cost £70.00 and it was fine for a bit, but I think that is now ruined as I have to remove battery leads every night to aviod constant alarm going off indicators flashing constantly etc.and discharging the battery every night? -
Peugeot 405 Battery Drain....or not ? 20 Feb 2006 (Forum)
My Pug 405 estate if left for a couple of days won't have enough oomph in the battery to turn it over. The AA man says battery OK (its less than 2 years old, but I'm not saying it isn't, as they can lose a cell or somesuch) and that I have a current drain of half an amp somewhere, which is a problem - we pulled out all the fuses, and checked cooling fan relays but it wasn't there. -
Battery problem - 1999 Astra 14 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Is the battery on the way out? Given that I've never had any battery problems before the accident or the repairs, could it have been caused by either the accident or the 8 weeks off the road? If so could I perhaps claim a new battery from the guy's insurance company? -
Peugeot 206 2003 - Battery drain 9 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Elderly neighbour's Peugeot 2003 failed to start, multimeter shows the battery has only 7 volts after standing on her drive unused for just one day. This is the fourth time this has happened over the year she has had the car, the supplying garage has supposedly fitted a new battery and new fuse box, which has not cured the problem. -
Any - Unregulated Solar Car Battery Charger 26 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Unregulated Solar Car Battery Charger Back in the UK for a few days. Local electronics store Maplins has nominally 1.5W photovoltaic battery chargers for 15 quid. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/solar-powered-12v-15w-battery-auto-trickle-charger-l58bf Since my car sits idle a lot without convenient mains access that might be useful. -

Unknown Part Name 13 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Hi, I know nothing about cars but the other day had to put in a new battery into my S Type Jaguar after googling how to do it. However there was a tube connected to a plastic part that went into the old battery that I now know was needed to release gasses. I still have the tube but the plastic part that was in the battery that the tube connected to I no longer have because I disposed of the old battery.. -
keeping batteries in good condition 13 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I have a Bailley caravan which has a leisure battery for various uses when no mains electricity is available. During a conversation someone mentioned that when not in use for long periods, which is the case, batteries should be connected to a special charge unit which keeps the voltage topped up. -
Plug-In Battery Jump Starters 17 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Advice please oh wise ones!... I am considering buying a HUALI make battery jump starter for one of my daughter's Xmas presents. According to the 'blurb' it is small enough to carry in the glove box and is pre-charged via the mains or the car dash socket. Apparently when you have a flat battery all that is required to do is plug the unit into the dash socket and 'hey presto' a few minutes later the car battery is charged sufiicient to start rthe vehicle. It costs £32.45 inc p&p and claims to be a useful alternative power source for other 12v items e.g. lap top, mobile phone etc. -
Ford Fiesta - Flat battery 23 Oct 2016 (Forum)

Renault Clio - Electrical problem- 18 May 2016 (Forum)
He knows nothing about cars. He bought a 2002 Clio 1.4 petrol saloon. He had some trouble starting it but now the battery is flat. Not a glimmer from it. The car has stood immobile now for 3 months. I am coming to visit and he wants me to bring some tools and a new battery.. I am wondering if I replace the battery and the fault is elsewhere the new battery will simply drain. -

Hope someone can help. I have been having problems with my battery which is about eight months old. I have been told that I do not use car enough and due to size the battery does not have time to recharge. -
Smart City Coupe - using an emergency jump starter 12 Jun 2011 (Forum)
However on the instructions of the starter it states that you should put the red positive clamp on the battery and the black negative clamp on a metal part of the car and NOT on the negative part of the battery. To start my car I have put the black clamp on the negative on the battery as smart cars are made of plastic and the battery is in the footwell of the passenger seat and no metal is available.
